MOUNT BRADDOCK, Pa. —
A Fayette County, Pennsylvania, man charged with shooting a woman’s pet dog after mistaking it for a coyote has posted bail and is out of jail.
Pennsylvania State Police said Justin Hall, 18, stood in a room on the second floor of his home and fired a shotgun at a dog that he thought was a coyote, according to the criminal complaint.
The animal turned out to be Wren, a neighbor’s pet.
“When I heard she was shot and she was never coming home again, it just rips your heart out,” said Wren’s owner, Jennifer Sypian.
In addition to a felony count of aggravated cruelty to an animal, police charged Hall with endangering his neighbors for firing so close to homes and the road.
Hall is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
